EARLY IDAHO SONGS OF THE MONTH - May 2010

Little Miss Ida of Idaho (Arthur Trevelyan, 1898). Original sheet music for this delightful "novelty song and refrain" are in the New York Public Library and the U. S. Library of Congress. The lyrics and melody have all the hallmarks of a stage production song. The song is credited to Arthur Trevelyan, a prolific composer of popular music from the 1890s to 1930s. The song's publisher, M. Widmar & Sons, was established in 1886 and was a leading Tin Pan Alley music publisher in New York. In 1929, the company pioneered the publication of British music in the U.K. and of American music in England. The company eventually was sold to Warner Brothers. The rendition here by Sean Rogers (piano and lead vocals) and Gary Eller (banjo and harmony vocals) appears on the CD/booklet High Tone Music of Idaho (2010).
